Call for application « Brussels Urban Production MasterClass » (date limite : prolongation à la 1ère semaine de janvier)
In 2020, Metrolab Brussels will organise a MasterClass, a biennial two-week workshop. After a first MasterClass experience on Urban Inclusion organized by Metrolab in 2017 and a second one on Brussels Ecosystems, this 2020 edition will explore Urban Production. The MasterClass will be held from 27th January to 7th February 2020.
Among the participants of the MasterClass, we have the possibility to invite some Master students or PhD candidates from your university. Among the participants of this event are students from: 4Cities European network of Masters in Urban Studies, Master in Transition Urbanism of ULB-Brussels, Doctoral school of LOCI-UCL and others.
Brussels Urban Production is centred on a common goal: to better understand how the interactions between production in the city (productive activities in urban areas) and production of the city (the day-to-day making of the urban fabric and its functions/uses) are actually carried out in Brussels. In concrete terms, this will lead to questions about the diversity of urban productive activities, their organisation and spatialisation, the jobs they generate and their integration into the urban economy and urban morphology.
The MasterClass will also addresses the opportunities and constrains that urban location continues to offer for certain productive activities. Finally, the MasterClass will be an opportunity to question the cohabitation and/or conflicts between the productive activities and other urban functions, in a context of land pressure, transition of mobility and support for the extension of spaces dedicated to medium or luxury housing.
For a valid application, the candidate must:
– be, either already holder of a Master degree, or currently enrolled in a Master program / a PhD program
– have a fluent English level and knowledge of French
– assure his/her continuous presence during the two weeks of the MasterClass.
Metrolab Brussels will provide:
– Accommodation in a hostel for the two weeks of workshop (15 days according to the dates indicated above). Breakfast will be provided every morning.
– Lunches during the two weeks of workshop
– Public transport tickets
Please note that the participation to the preliminary conference is not compulsory for the admission to the MasterClass.
To apply, the candidate must be supported by his institution and write a motivation letter (max. 400 words), join his/her CV and a short file of his/her significant works (abstracts, cover pages, posters, summaries, portfolios etc. / max. 5 pages).
All the documents have to be submitted in English by 15th December 2019 to Louise Prouteau (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Candidates will be informed of the acceptance by 20th December.
