Extrait du site : The Asian Studies program at Vassar College, in association with the New York Conference on Asian Studies (NYCAS), will host an international conference that thematically explores “Global Asia: Social, Cultural, and Political Spaces” in order to expand and deepen our understanding of enduring and changing relationships among societies across national boundaries in Asia and between Asia and the rest of the world.

We welcome proposals for traditional or non-traditional panels, individual papers, and roundtables. Graduate student participation is encouraged. We also welcome proposals for presentations of faculty research that involves undergraduate student participation.

Proposal topics may include, but are not limited to the following: colonial and post-colonial discourses, Pan-Asianism in the global age, environmental changes and sustainability, political technology and social movements, nationalism and collective memories, religious ideology and practices, urbanization, economic transformation, globalization and local identities, practices of popular culture and entertainment, gender and sexuality, globalization and reinvention/localization of food, and culinary knowledge and practices in various times and regions.

Dr. Laurel Kendall (Vice President Elected, Association for Asian Studies, and Chair of the Division of Anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City) and Mr. Liu Jianqiang (editor of China Dialogue – China’s earliest and most influential bilingual website on environmental issues) will give keynote speeches. Asian art and photograph exhibitions and Asian food workshops will be held in conjunction with the conference.
