Consisting of over 100 researchers from 14 institutes in Europe, China, India and the United States, the Urban Knowledge Network Asia (UKNA) represents the largest academic international network on Asian cities. UKNA is being funded by a grant awarded by the Marie Curie Actions ‘International Research Staff Exchange Scheme’ (IRSES), which is part of the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme. The project will run from April 2012 until April 2016.
ENSAPB is one of the four European beneficiaries of the program. During four years time, our school of architecture is hosting 10 Asian scholars and sending 15 of ENSAPB’s teachers, researchers and PhD candidates to the foreign institutions for short (1 month) or long (up to 12 months) secondments. ENSAPB is also involved in three collective research themes, which are developed under the aegis of the UKNA program, namely: the “Ideas of the city”; the “Future of the city” and the “city by and for the people”.
The seminar will start with a short presentation of the program by Dr. Adèle Esposito who is responsible, together with Dr. Nathalie Lancret, for UKNA scientific coordination at ENSAPB. Then, two UKNA’s fellow will give presentations: Mrs. Yixian Zhang, urban planner at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design (CAUPD, Beijing) and Mrs. Pijika Pumketkao, PhD candidate at the UMR AUSser who visited Hong Kong University in 2012. The presentations will be given in English. They will be followed by a debate, during which participants will be able to formulate questions and remarks both in English and French (translation will be provided).
At the end of the seminar, a space will be offered to other UKNA fellows from ENSAPB who may want to ask questions concerning the program, their secondments, and their individual research.
